Olusola's life narrative Samuel will get you thinking about what it takes to find one's passion and the determination to pursue it without the aid of Egypt. He remembers how he got into the shoe industry, the hurdles he faced, and how his wife felt as a shoemaker the first day they met.

My name is Olusola Samuel, and I go by the nickname Solar Shoe (my brand name). My company makes shoes for customers in a variety of styles, including sandals, shoes, boots, and other footwear. Some refer to this business as cobbler shoemaking, but shoes are involved in any form. I began this company after finishing my senior secondary school diploma. Abeokuta taught me the skills (Ogun State, Nigeria).

I learned the technique quickly and it is now paying off handsomely. There is no shoe that I cannot make to God's honor.

What accomplishments can you point to?

Since I finished serving my boss in 2002, I've been able to accomplish a lot through this business. I've been able to train a lot of guys, and they've been pointers to my impact in their respective locations, and I still have about 19 boys who are about to be released, not counting those who came and ran away because they couldn't handle what it takes. Still, thanks to this job, I was able to purchase sophisticated machines such as two industrial machines, my own car, and business bikes. I was also able to get married with a large ceremony.

What does it take to get into this line of work?

Anyone, regardless of academic standing, can start a shoemaking firm. However, in order to meet the obstacles, it is preferable to be educated, at least to the level of a senior secondary school diploma (for good communication) and a simple learning process. When a university approached me to teach this business concept in their entrepreneurship program, I was able to interact with the students quite well despite the fact that I speak very little. When I saw the management was pulling a fast one on me, I ended the meeting. Furthermore, you just need a modest amount of money to get started because everything will improve with time.

One must also be committed and focused. Because everyone wears shoes, if you know this job well, you can educate your children, create houses, and live large.

Will the shoe industry persevere in the face of technological advancement?

Shoe manufacturing is similar to clothing; when people stop wearing clothes, they will stop fighting over shoes. Shoe making will continue till the universe ends. The most significant thing is to be very familiar with this work in order to blend in with current trends. This company cannot go out of business..

 What difficulties do you face?

There were other problems, for example, following my independence, no one was there to assist me, I was always hungry, I had no money to demonstrate my worth to others, and I couldn't even afford to buy respectable clothing. But the turning point came when one of my brothers called and gave me #10,000 the next year. It was with that money that I bought some materials and manufactured shoes, and people began to admire my work, and they continued to buy, even though the money they were paying was nothing compared to what it cost me, but as a dedicated individual, I held on and focused on the future of my business.

So, given my circumstances, I vowed myself that I would never marry in order to avoid starving my wife and children. During that time, I updated my expertise, and it has served me well until now. Before God answered my prayers, I had gone through a lot. My life is like a welder hammering the same spot on a piece of metal over and over again to achieve the right form.
