On Thursday, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, organized a committee to evaluate and eradicate Nigerian agricultural products' rejection in international markets.

The committee is led by Mr Suleiman Audu, Director, Commodities and Export Department, and is entrusted with identifying the main reasons for agro produce rejection and offering appropriate recommendations.

According to Ifedayo Sayo, the minister's Special Assistant on Media, the Federal Government is focusing a lot of emphasis on non-oil commodity exports, which has led to farmers and product aggregators collaborating to explore the export market for their products.

He noted that most Asian, European, and American countries had recently rejected Nigerian agricultural items for export.

He noted that this had resulted in significant financial losses, as well as a detrimental impact on the supply value chain and employment creation.

He emphasized that the international market was competitive, and he welcomed high-quality items with applicable certifications and environmentally friendly packaging.

According to Adebayo, the issue of quality, standards, certification, and proper packaging for made-in-Nigeria export items has been a reoccurring concern, necessitating the formation of the technical committee to address the matter and provide appropriate suggestions..

The minister informed the committee that the nation was looking forward to the outcome of the task they were given as an antidote to Nigerian exporters' rejection on the worldwide market.

He set a deadline of six weeks for the committee to submit its report.
